New Hartford 125’s

There are quite a few things you can do to help look after your pride and joy, to keep it performing well and reduce future bills.

Check your engine oil every few days
- it takes seconds, oil is the life blood of your engine, check the
coolant level too, normally this can be done visually.
Check your tyres and their pressures
- it might cost 10p but should be done weekly, any splits, cuts or
bulges.........get it looked at.
Lube your chain
- little and often, do it after a run while the chain is hot, the lube will
penetrate better and will solidify overnight.......so it won’t fling off as much. Keep your chain properly adjusted, it you don’t know how,
ask, it is very dangerous ( and a nick) to leave it badly adjusted.......
.....It also makes for rubbish gear changes, especially as you snick
into second while hoisting those wheelie's !
Check all your lights, switches, locks, levers and alarms
- much better sorted at home than in the car park while every one Is
revved up and waiting !
Check wheel and head race bearings
- easy with a mate to lift the wheels off the ground only takes a
minute, very few people do this! Bearings only cost a few
pounds.......imagine the consequences if they broke up !!
Check your shocks
- bounce your bike up and down a few times, front and rear, listen for
any squeaks, graunches or clicks.......there shouldn’t be any !
Make sure the damping works smoothly
Check your brakes
- spongy levers, grinding noises, low pads or any general
deteriation..........then come on down.
Clean your loved one
- plenty of soap, hot water and elbow grease, especially in the winter
months, always have a good look around your bike with a bit of a
poke about looking for any wear, loose bits or anything else
untoward.

All the above won’t take long and will pay dividends in the long run. If you are not sure about anything, then give us a call or pop down, if you care for your bike and check it regularly, not only will you get to know and have pride in your bike, you will certainly have more confidence and feel safer when you tackle that Ducati into a tight bend with your knee skimming the deck.

Obviously it is important to have your bike regularly serviced by an experienced engineer which is where we can help, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience in both older bikes and the latest models. We do try hard and we are told our rates are very reasonable. Why don’t you call us or pop down and judge for your self.
